Leanne Tobias

Leanne Tobias is founder and principal of Malachite LLC, an investment advisory firm specializing in global sustainable real estate. She brings over 20 years of institutional real estate investment and management experience to the field.
Previous to founding Malachite LLC, she was Managing Director of the Multi-Employer Property Trust, a $3.2 billion commercial real estate equity fund, where she managed the Investment Committee, negotiated or participated in more than $1 billion in real estate acquisitions and sales, and managed over 6 million square feet of property. She also headed the real estate operations of the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust, and directed programs for capital markets lenders, banks, pension funds and life insurance companies at the Mortgage Bankers Association, specializing in global commercial real estate finance.
In addition to her work with private real estate and investment clients, Leanne has spoken on sustainable real estate investment for the United Nations, Harvard Business School, Investment and Pensions Europe, the Urban Land Institute, Princeton University and the U.S. Green Building Council.
She is an expert in the subject of incorporating environmental considerations into real estate investment portfolios to create superior financial returns , and is the principal author of the investment and finance sections of the Urban Land Institute’s authoritative Green Office Buildings: a Practical Guide to Development.
Leanne holds an MBA from Wharton Business School and a Master’s of Public Affairs degree from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. She is one of the few investment professionals to have been designated as a LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. Leanne has served as an advisor to the new Green Building Finance Consortium http://www.greenbuildingfc.com/, the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory http://www.nrel.gov/ and Building Design and Construction Magazine among many other prestigious organizations.
